USA Wheel Gymnastics 2023 WheelFest Chicago

CHICAGO (May 2) - USA Wheel Gymnastics is thrilled to host the Chicago WheelFest, an event celebrating Wheel Gymnastics as a sport, art, and spectacle from July 10-14, 2023. This inclusive festival hosts a variety of workshops, performance opportunities, and social events, including workshops in all disciplines of Wheel Gymnastics as well as Circus Arts (Cyr Wheel, Aerials), performance challenges, and conditioning for all levels from beginner to advanced, ages 13+.

On July 15, USA Wheel Gymnastics will host the Wheel Gymnastic Team World Championship for the first time in the United States in Chicago at the Broadway Armory Park, 5197 N Broadway. For the first time in the history of USA Wheel, the junior team has qualified in spot number 4 to compete in this year’s Team World Championship. The senior and junior US team has yet to qualify for this event. The junior team representing the USA are all Wheelers from the Chicago area. 

More information on Chicago WheelFest (July 10-14): 

An open training camp for Wheel Gymnastics and Cyr Wheel is a training opportunity designed for those who arrive in Chicago a few days early to train with some of the World’s best coaches in competitive and performance-oriented Wheel Gymnastics. All-wheel sizes are available for the open training camp, and groups will be separated based on levels to provide optimal conditions for everyone. Delegations are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity for competition preparation. During the festival, anyone aged 5+ can participate in the workshop series focusing on all Wheel Gymnastics disciplines and other exciting Circus Arts and Acrobatics such as Cyr Wheel, Trampoline, Handstands, Silks/ Static trapeze/ Hoop, Partner Wheel, Performance, Dance and Conditioning. Prices vary depending on the events participants want to sign up for, starting at $25.

Accommodation packages can be purchased at discounted rates by all delegation members, friends, family, and WheelFest participants. More details on Wheel Gymnastic Team World Championship (July 15):

Six national teams have qualified for the event.

• Junior: Germany, Israel, Switzerland, and the USA

• Senior: Austria, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland

The junior team representing the USA are all Wheelers from the Chicago area.

• Karly O ‘Brien, Alex Gola, Lola Lown, Aidan Elliot, Aiden Lish, and the youngster on the team Jacob Hartwell (13) from Evanston.

The competition format mandates that performed routines count toward the total score. Therefore, three disciplines will be assessed for the Championship:

• Straight-line, Spiral, and Vault.

The senior team can demonstrate their skill set to the audience in a demonstration set up ahead of each discipline change. USA senior representatives are:

• Casey Crowe (Winnetka), Emily Temmer (Brookfield), Mearieta Clemente ( Urbana ), Dillon Czerny (Chicago), and Olivia Marks (Elkton, MD)
